COACH’S PROFILE
Allow me to introduce myself, Rick Van Kampen, club coach of North Kirra SLSC. My previous experiences in Surf Life Saving all began at Bondi back in 1979, as a cadet member. I spent fourteen years moving through the ranks of both competition and awards for Bondi. My competition experience involved many disciplines of surf life saving and includes State and National medals. Since arriving on the Gold Coast in 1993, I have undertaken coaching programs crediting me as Level I and II in Surf life Saving, Certificate III and IV in Fitness and Health as well as many years of practical experience both as a coached competitor and coach.
I feel both excited and rejuvenated at being given this opportunity to promote and guide North Kirra SLSC into a new era. The development of all active and associate members both in competition and Surf Life Saving will help generate a stronger and more committed club that its members will uphold with pride and honour. Always remember, don’t ask what my club can do for me but rather what I can do for my club. Both past and present members can be proud to belong to a club adhering to this simple policy, thus creating an atmosphere of loyalty and honour to surf life saving and our community.
As coach I will encourage and support each member to reach their highest potential while expecting 100% commitment of all members while at training sessions with a willingness to learn, display of respect to all persons and equipment and encouragement to the development of fellow members. Ensure you always have a towel, runners, sunscreen, swimmers and water bottle at each training session. But most importantly enjoy and have fun while learning quality life skills.
